Programs

MPH Program

The Resident/Fellow MPH program and curriculum are designed to meet the needs of USF pediatric residents and fellows. The course of study will lead to a masters degree in public health with a concentration in maternal child health.

The core courses are MPH requirements and give a perspective to major issues in public health. Principles of Maternal-Child Health provides an overview of those programs. MCH II involves case studies and problems in maternal-child health. MCH Data covers analysis of important maternal-child health data. The independent study covers activities of the residency that will be worked out with an advisor.

The remaining courses can be selected by the group or individuals, depending on interests and future plans. Some courses are taught through distance learning or independent study; however, the majority of courses are taught at the College of Public Health. Courses are available on a two-year cycle, so that residents or fellows can pick up any missing courses in the third year and also take specialized research courses at that time. An optional fourth year of field experience is available in either domestic or international public health.

The MPH will include a minimum of nine courses and a special project that will involve a problem analysis or study of public health data.

Residents and fellows are awarded 39 hours of credit, which includes credit for three hours of special project and three hours of field experience, as part of the residency. An advisor for special projects will be assigned according to the problem or study.

Residents and fellows who wish to take selected courses but not complete the MPH degree may discuss the program with their pediatric advisor.
