Personal Statement:
"I like to do clinical outcomes research. We have a great department and new endowed chair, Dr Lisa Simpson who does only outcomes research. I have done one paper on appendicitis and imaging. I love inpatient medicine, especially at night when it's quiet. Night time call can actually be fun given the right attitude. The great thing about this program is that there's an attending available 24-7 to teach, answer questions and expediate treatment of each patient. Your autonomy is not sacrificed because you guys do all the work. We just come by, oversee what's going on and give you our blessing. Of course there are those occasions when we see something you've overlooked and this is what's called a teachable moment. So besides doing grunt work, there's teaching that goes on even at 3 am. Of course we do let you sleep too!
I mainly work at All Children's Hospital and after coming from Boston Children's I wasn't sure whether there would be a difference. I have been very impressed with the caliber of residents here and the teaching you will receive. And you get to do it in warm weather, on the bay. What more can you ask for. Come and see us. We'll look forward to it."
