University of South Florida - College of Medicine
The University of South Florida (USF) College of Medicine opened its doors in 1971. Continuous growth over a quarter of a century has enhanced innovation and cooperation among laboratory scientists, medical educators and physicians, making the College a rising star among academic medical centers in the United States.
Sponsored research at USF has reached $207 million this year, including $68.5 million in research support for the College of Medicine, which along with colleges of nursing and public health forms the core of the USF Health Sciences Center.
The College of Medicine has flourished as USF has grown to become the 13th largest public university in the nation and the second largest of Florida's ten state universities. Located in the northeast corner of Tampa, the 1,672-acre campus is part of the fast-growing Tampa/St. Petersburg/Clearwater area.
With more than 2.2 million people in the Tampa Bay area, and still more residing in a large referral region, the College of Medicine serves a critical role as a regional referral center and research institution. This role is reflected in wide-ranging affiliations with hospitals and clinics, which provide a diverse variety of learning environments.
