About the General Academic Pediatrics Division
The USF Department of Pediatrics has a strong Pediatric and Med-Peds residencies. The training program is unique in being affiliated with All Children's Hospital (ACH); a free standing tertiary care children's hospital in located in sunny St. Petersburg with an academic hospitalist program as well as Tampa General Hospital (TGH), a general community hospital which is the training site of the various USF residencies. In 2006, the department ranked 3 rd out of 92 pediatric departments across the country in NIH research grants; a rank up from 9 th in 2005. The Pediatric Clinical Research Center (PCRC), a state of the art research center dedicated to children’s clinical and basic science research, is a joint effort between USF and ACH. The USF/ACH PCRC located on the St. Petersburg campus, houses basic and clinical researchers including experts in Cardiology, Allergy-Immunology, Endocrinology, and Child Health Policy and Outcome. The CRI will be a major training research site for fellows.
The USF Division of General Academic Pediatrics has strong ambulatory training clinical opportunities. Faculty members from the division supervise pediatric residents at the USF South Tampa Center and the TGH Pediatric at Health Park clinic. In addition, the division has already established strong educational partnerships with community organizations, schools, and community pediatricians in the Tampa Bay area. Training opportunities include serving the underserved through the USF Ronald MacDonald Care Mobile; a mobile health unit that provides medical and dental care to various underserved schools, youths, and community agencies. The Department of Pediatrics also has acquired the Child Protection contract for the County. Other training opportunities include a focus on Business of Medicine training as well as quality assurance/quality improvement activities.
