Allergy and Immunology Training Program

Training program goals

Our Training Program is designed to prepare specialists who will provide expert medical care for patients with allergic and immunologic disorders, and who can serve as consultants, educators, and physician scientists in the areas of asthma, allergic disorders, immune deficiency diseases, and other immunologically mediated disorders.

The Fellows spend 50% of their time in clinical training where they are exposed to a variety of patients with allergic and immunologic conditions and 50% in basic and clinical science research and other activities such as didactic sessions and conferences. The program has been structured so the Fellows can benefit from the strengths of ACH/USF and other affiliated institutions. There is excellent integration between in- and out-patient experience, pediatric and adult patient populations, and patients with various allergic and immunologic conditions.

All Children's Hospital, a 216-bed teaching hospital, consists of more than 150 pediatric specialists and subspecialists who service over 40 medical and surgical specialty divisions providing state-of-the-art care for children. There are 72 pediatric residents in training at this time at All Children's Hospital.

Bayfront Medical Center is a 502-bed hospital, staffed by board-certified faculty physicians in Family Practice, Pediatrics or Internal Medicine, as well as other physicians who are pursuing three years of advanced training in the specialty of Family Practice. The highly rated Family Practice Residency at Bayfront is also affiliated with the USF College of Medicine.

The Allergy/Immunology Training Program in the USF Department of Internal Medicine is located at the James A. Haley Veterans Administration Medical Center in Tampa, Florida . This program, under the direction of Dr. Richard F. Lockey, has offered broad-based, accredited, 2-year fellowship training since 1976.
