Special ProjectsHOT DOCS The American Academy of Pediatrics reported in 2002 that twenty percent of children have challenging behaviors, putting them at greater risk for school failure, poor social relationships, and juvenile delinquency. Positive Behavior Support (PBS) is a problem-solving process, which teaches parents to figure out the underlying purposes of behavior in order to prevent problem behaviors from occurring. PBS encourages responsive parenting, enhances child communication and development, and reduces the need for future mental health services and special education placements. Part of the PBS philosophy is that PARENTS are the experts on their child, therefore, PBS trainers serve as coaches to assist families in managing their child's behavior. During HOT DOCS sessions, parents are taught to problem-solve using the PBS framework in their everyday lives. This project is funded by The Children's Board of Hillsborough County
