All Children's Hospital

All Children's Hospital in St. Petersburg is the only freestanding children's hospital on Florida's west coast. Founded in 1926 as the American Legion Hospital for Crippled Children, All Children's has grown into a 216-bed tertiary pediatric referral center for central and southwest Florida. Annual inpatient admissions exceed 7,000.

A new All Children's Hospital had its' initial groundbreaking in May 2005. An entire new hospital will be moved into in 2008.

All Children's has been a major teaching affiliate for the Department of Pediatrics since 1973. The partnership has grown to include many research and training programs. The Hospital's 120 campus-based pediatric specialists and subspecialists all are full-time or clinical faculty of the College of Medicine and play a key role in resident education.

Resources include a 60-bed Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, a bone marrow transplant unit, programs in renal and cardiac tranplantation, and Florida's busiest pediatric heart surgery program. The pediatric cancer program at All Children's is one of the busiest in the Southeast. The Hospital is a regional referral center for neurosurgery, genetic disorders, immunology, cystic fibrosis, cleft palate and craniofacial surgery, pediatric neurology and developemental pediatrics.

A state-of-the-art pediatric emergency center, opened in 1995, handles more than 18,000 annual visits. The Hospital is home to many outpatient and ambulatory pediatrics programs, including an active General Pediatrics service and numerous pediatric specialty clinics.

The Children's Research Institute, located on the Hospital's 30 acre campus, offers residents opportunities to study and interact with research faculty and post-doctoral fellows who are investigating key issue in immunology, transplantation, endocrinology and molecular genetics.

New investigators are being recruited for the Rothman Chair of Child Development to lead the Department's efforts in developmental neurosciences and the Wal-Mart/Sam's Club Chair in Pediatric Oncology to similarly increase the efforts in that discipline. State of the art high throughput sequencer will come on-line in September 2005 to assist the investigators in their efforts.

Tampa General Hospital

Tampa General Hospital, is the principal teaching center for the USF College of Medicine. This 1,000-bed facility offers a depth and breadth of academic medical services seldom found at a community hospital. Pediatric residents enjoy lively academic and clinical exchanges with resident physicians and faculty in a wide variety of disciplines.

This publicly owned hospital is located on Davis Island, adjacent to Tampa's thriving downtown. Pediatric residents participate in providing tertiary care services, gaining experience in considering diagnoses rarely encountered in community practice. Residents also staff many busy outpatient and primary care clinics, learning to effectively treat large numbers ofpatients in diverse ambulatory settings.

Tampa General's highly regarded regional emergency center serves more than 52,000 children and adults each year. The emergency center encompasses the region's only Level I trauma and burn units, as well as a poison control center that is active in education and research.

The Children's Medical Center at Tampa General has 81 pediatric-designated beds and provides care in more than 25 pediatric specialties and subspecialties, including a neonatal intensive care unit with ECMO technology, a pediatric intensive care center, and a dialysis and renal transplant program.

In September 2007, the new 100,000 square foot South Tampa Center was completed adjacent to Tampa General Hospital to solidify the ambulatory operations of USF at the Davis Island site.
